Re-loved and Recycled Art for Open Studios

Been tidying up my studio and prepping for our open studios and I might have got a wee bit carried away! 😅 Decided to paint my super scruffy old paint cupboard. Poor old thing was so peely and sad looking, needed a bit of love. What do you think? Like it?

🌿💚 Open Studios: 6th & 7th August – 12-5pm. Wasps Dundee, I Meadow Mill, West Hendersons Wynd, Dundee (just down from Verdant Works) 💚🌿

Used up the last of the paint from my front door to quickly tidy it up a bit… then it got out of hand when I found a gold pen from another project! 😅

It’s a good feeling using up scraps of paint and other stashed stuffs though isn’t it! Nice for the pocket, nice for the planet – and it totally justifies all my hoarding! 😂👏

Just me?

🤩 It’s going to be brilliant throwing open all our doors again (especially the freshly painted ones 😅). There will be around 25 artists and makers opening their studios so plenty of awesome to come and see. I love having a nosey around other people’s studios… I think you’ll love it too!

Adding the final flourishes

I also decided to use up pieces left over from previous projects to create a wee welcome installation outside the studio door.

Come say hi! We’re a pretty friendly bunch 💚🌿 And don’t worry, if you miss us, many of us are open by appointment… so just get in touch!

Almost finished and up on the wall to welcome everyone to the first floor… and studio 6 💚🌿 📷 by Louise Kirby (also opening her studio in Meadow Mill, on 4th floor)
Even my plants in the studio are rescued! This one was very sad before it came to live with me 🌿

After Open Studios was finished I was sent some lovely pics that made my day! So glad it brought some joy. Thank you Jennie and Hannie (and all my other visitors too).

After all the visitors left and a quick tidy up I added some of my wee birds too. Couldn’t help myself. I’m sure they won’t be the last things I’ll be adding to it either! 😅

I’m really happy with it! A very quick transformation. (Lupin likes it too).
This was the template for my treehouse for the Children’s Theatre Suite project. It’s made out of scrap laminated rough yukky stuff… but with a bit of love and lots of leftover paint and bits I’m hoping to save it from the skip!

Treehouse materials list – Treehouse & Birds: left over from Children’s Theatre Suite project. Big Bush: left over from Dundee Christmas Card 2020. Wee Bush & wooden stars: left over from Roxburghe House 3D mural. Paints: left over from Children’s Theatre Suite project, Monifieth Art Trail and Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket trail.
