The Dundee Dots are colourful and fun but not just that, they also hold a lot of meaning in their bold designs. They represent our city’s history and also some other nods to our present and future. These dots bring you Jute, Jam, Journalism, Adventure and more…

Blue Dot – Represents Jute. The Dundee jute mills were powered by burns like the Dichty that runs right around the whole city, hence the colour choice. The design represents the woven threads of the jute itself.

Orange Dot – Representing the oranges that make the famous Dundee Marmalade. The colour is an obvious choice and the design nods to the pitted skin of the fruit.

Pink Dot – The Hot Fushia dots with their dashes that represent newspaper text are hot off the presses to shout all about journalism.

Green Dot – Representing Green Adventures. We have so many beautiful green spaces to explore in Dundee. The pathway design reflects that journey that leads to adventure and discovery! It reflects the past too as we journey back to admire beautiful parks like Baxter Park, Magdalen Green and Balgay that were created back in Victorian times for the people of Dundee.

Yellow Dot – We love to call our city Sunny Dundee, so there had to be a yellow sunny dot to represent that with its bold retro style sun ray design! 

Teal Dot – Actually it’s Marrs Green – the world’s favourite colour and also a Dundee colour linking to the River Tay, thanks to Annie Marrs of our UNESCO team. It is also the colour of my studio walls and a regular feature in my work. The design represents the pebbles in the River Tay with the water flowing over them.

The Dundee Dot Collection is now available from my Etsy shop. They come as beautiful hard enamel pins that go beautifully on coats, bags and look particularly great on your favourite jumper or dress to add a splash of colour and create a talking point. Talking of wearable art, the dots have also been made into a repeating pattern and printed onto 100% cotton. They were then skilfully sewn into beautiful textile pieces right here in Dundee. Tote bags, zip bags/ make up bags and purses – all practical, pretty and all tell the stories of Dundee.
