Hi! I hope this letter finds you smiley and well. How was your February? Mine was a busy one with a market, and exhibition, lots of drawing, writing Life Story Books and some rather fab commissions, which were totally up my street! I love it when that happens. I shall share some of these with you after I have told you what is coming up this month!
I also want to tell you a bit more about a talk I was invited to do yesterday for a group of HND and HNC Art students… but that I think I shall save for a separate post. Some really interesting points came out of it that I think are worthy of sharing.
So.. first up is the ‘Then and Now Fair’ on Sunday (9th March) in Angus Hotel, Blairgowrie. A lovely new fair that I really enjoyed being a part of at Christmas and was delighted to be invited back.
It will be stuffed full of art, antiques, curios, cake and a very funny poet, Archie McBrain, who wrote an awesome poem about me! I would love to work with him in the future. Just brill, clever stuff! Also there will be Blairgowrie Antiques, The Little Curio Shop and Days Gone Bye Jams and Preserves.
On Friday the 14th of March I shall be running an open craft workshop in Broughty Ferry (2-3.30). There shall be a range of things to make, including paper flowers, origami, spring cards, air drying clay models. Please get in touch with me if you would like to attend on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Then on Saturday 15th I have been invited to do another talk about my work as a self-employed, full time artist. It is part of Dundee’s Women’s Festival 2014. Held at Diosu Limited (1-4) it will be relaxed afternoon filled with 5 minute talks and crafts. Please click Here for more info about Diaosu and the Women’s Festival.
Sundy 16th March is Dundee’s Face Of Freedom, which I am delighted to be a part of this year! I have been commissioned to create some very interesting WhimSicAL LusH pieces for the models to… well.. model! Can’t wait to share the photos with you after the show! Or if you come to the show, you will be able to see them for yourself!
What’s it all about? Dundee’s Face of Freedom every year raises much needed funds for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Dundee. The centre receives no government funding and relies on donations. Over the years we’ve been running this event, we’ve raised almost £60,000 for Maggie’s. The event is a celebration of life; a celebration of creative talent and a celebration of all that is great about Dundee. On 16 March 2014 is the finale of many months of preparation, fundraising and activity. The catwalk show will be an evening of fun, fashion, music and great hair! You can find out more about this very worthy fundriser here! And you can read a little about my exhibition with Freedom there too!
Those are my main events this month. I hope you can come along to them too!
Finally, I would like to share a few of this month’s commissions and new works. Have a great March.
Boris the Bat Sew on Patches: My illustration translated into embroidery by Notions Embroidery Brechin. Originally made for a commission by one of the youngest Boris fans. He wanted a Boris the Bat Backpack. This was the best solution.
This is an illustration that I was commissioned to do for Scottish author Craig Gilbert. I was delighted to be presented with my own, signed copy of it. If you would like to know more about the book and Craig please click here. If you would like an e-book copy then please click here!
‘The Night Circus’ illustration was a wonderful brief given to me for the March challenge in The Undecided (an artist collective that I am part of). The brief was ‘circus’ ‘fantasy’ ‘black and white”vibrant’. Loved it! I was inspired by the book of the same title, which I would very much recommend to you.
This commissioned logo was for the Jam Witch herself at Days Gone Bye Homemade Jams and Preserves. She loved it and I am delighted that she does. She will be joining me on Sunday at the fair in Blairgowrie. I designed labels for her jam jars too… I hope she has some made up already so I can see them in action. Got to get me another jar of her wonderful Rhubarb and Ginger jam too!
